Information concerning the course Mathematics 551 (Introduction to
algebra)

The course will be an introduction to abstract algebra,
including groups, rings, modules and categories.
It will meet Monday and Wednesday 3:20-4:40 in
Hill 423. The following information is currently available about this
course.
There are textbooks on category theory freely available
online which may be useful in finding a definition or
proposition.
For example
The Joy of Cats by Adamek, Herrlich and Strecker is a more
than 500 page text containing many examples and theorems of
category theory.
