Course diary with information about work to be handed in |
Title (with PDF links) |
What is it? | Handed out or posted | ||
---|---|---|---|---|
An award of some sort | A facsimile of the recognition award received by students who attended/endured every lecture (as far as course management knows!) this semester. Joy and pity combine, and I declare my continuing ambition to make each future lecture more worthwhile! Thanks to these students and others. | 12/10/2003 | ||
Old final exam problems | These are problems gathered from old final exams, and you can think of them as secret review problems. See here for more information. Some answers to these problems may be here. | 12/2/2003 | ||
Review problems for the final exam | These problems will be discussed in Thursday's (12/4/2003)
workshop. See here for more
information. Some answers to these problems may be
here. Ms. Calinescu found some errors. Problems 5b and 27 have been changed from the ones originally posted. I thank her for her careful review and regret the errors. More errors were found in problems 11 and 18, and these have been fixed! Again, I thank Ms. Calinescu and regret the errors. | 12/4/2003 | ||
The formula sheet for the final exam | The final exam is the same for all students in Math 151. I have reviewed the exam but it is not written by me. Here is the formula sheet which will be distributed with the final. It is posted here so that you can get familiar with it. | 11/25/2003 | ||
The tenth workshop | Yes, finally, the last workshop! Please hand in a solution of the third problem next week. | 11/25/2003 | ||
Bonus problems for the second exam | Some problems for students to do during workshops on Thursday, 11/20/2003. Here is information about the grading of the bonus problems. | 11/23/2003 | ||
Answers to the second exam | Here are answers to one version of the first exam, and here is information about the grading of the second exam. This has been augmented (11/23/2003) by approximate letter grade equivalents for the sum of students' exam grades and bonus problem grades. | 11/19/2003 | ||
A version of the second exam | Here is version B of the second exam, in a somewhat more compact form than was given to students. | 11/19/2003 | ||
Review problems for the second exam |
Students will work on these problems and present solutions
on Thursday, November 13. I also invite students to send me solutions
by e-mail
to these problems, and I will construct a
web page with the first
valid answers sent to me for each problem. You may also find these links useful. A misprint in the first problem has been corrected. I also note that the writer doesn't know how to count: problems 6 and 7 seem to be missing. I thank Mr. Kurian for this observation, and I apologize. Sigh. I meant limit as x-->0 in problem 10c. The answer is still 0 but l'Hopital's rule must be applied twice. I corrected this from x-->infinity which is easier to do (one application of l'H) with the same answer. I am sorry. I finally saw the misprint during the review session. | 11/16/2003 | ||
The formula sheet for the second exam |
Here is the formula sheet to be provided to every student with the second exam. | 11/6/2003 | ||
The ninth workshop | Please hand in a writeup of the second problem next Thursday. | 11/6/2003 | ||
The eighth workshop |
| 10/31/2003 | ||
The seventh workshop | Please hand in a writeup of the second problem next Thursday. You may find some help by looking at the diary entry for Wednesday, October 22, where I discussed correctly and in more detail the Newton's method example mentioned in class, or by going to this web page which has some specific advice. | 10/24/2003 | ||
The sixth workshop | Please hand in a writeup of the third problem next Thursday. | 10/16/2003 | ||
Answers to the first exam | Here are answers to one version of the first exam, and here is information about the grading of the first exam. | 10/15/2003 | ||
A version of the first exam | This is version A of the first exam, in a somewhat more compact form than was given to students. | 10/15/2003 | ||

The fifth workshop | Please hand in a writeup of the FOURTH problem next Thursday, unless you have exceptional energy and want to do the first problem. I was mistaken in what I wrote earlier today. Thanks to Mr. Baron for advising me of this. | 10/3/2003 | ||
