Welcome! Here is the
schedule
-
I was Harry's first PhD student. Here is
my thesis .
-
I had
only one paper with Harry
But he implicitly (together with Yakar Kannai) shaped my subsequent research.
I tried to solve a problem that
Harry gave me by first proving a discrete analog, then abandoned the original problem and
dedicated my life to the discrete.
-
When Harry's 85th birthday approached, I wanted to write a paper dedicated to him, related to his research interests.
Alas, I was no expert in Harry's research!
Instead, by chance I came accross a book written by Harry's brother, Clive Dym z"l, on "Engineering Design"
that I found at a used bookstore. There I was reminded of a classic puzzle "Missionaries and Cannibals".
Together with my PhD student, George Spahn, we wrote
this tribute
[BTW, Clive's book was dedicated to Harry!]
-
In preparation to this party, I looked up Harry's publications, and found out that
(a long time ago!) he wrote, with Gene Luks, a paper in discrete math
and this gave birth to
yet another tribute.
-
Happy Birthday Harry. Keep up the good work!
