Chinese Calligraphy
Yi-Zhi Huang
A native of Shanghai, China, I was born in a family of artists. My
grandfather was a prominent professional calligrapher, painter
and seal carver and my father was also
a reputable calligrapher. Because of their influence,
I started to learn calligraphy at the age of eight.
My work has been featured in many Chinese
calligraphy exhibits in mainland China, Taiwan and the U.S.,
and I have lectured
widely on the subject at universities, museums, schools, and
public libraries in New Jersey and in other places. I wrote
several articles on the history and aesthetics of
Chinese calligraphy and has been a member of the Shanghai Calligrapher
Association of China starting from 1983.
I hope to contribute to the restoration of the
tradition of Chinese calligraphy not just as a basic form of
fine art, but most importantly, as a cultural carrier.
