Discussion of the grading
Seventeen students took the
exam. I tried to grade fairly. Of course I also tried to
grade "anonymously", but that's difficult to do in a class this size
where I've had extensive written work from most students. I repeatedly
regraded and compared student work in an effort to insure that
answers covering the same material with the same results got the same
grade. I may have made errors and would welcome requests
for explanation. Students should read my answers first, although
certainly there are several correct ways to answer almost all
of the questions.
The questions in part 1 were known and had rather formulaic responses
so I graded them strictly. One complaint with some legitimacy
would be in question 1, where I took a point off if the response
included "upper bound" without an explanation of the phrase. My reason
was that the definition of sup both in class (and the diary)
and in the text explained what an upper bound was. In any case, I took
1 point off for this omission, which is not a large penalty.
Overall, I think the exam might have been too long and the
total numbers show this. I adjusted the boundary lines for the letter
grades in response. Please realize that the grades for the course will
also be strongly influenced by other work, as I have previously explained. Students with
predicted courses grade of D or F (based on exam grade and other work)
will get warnings.

Discussion of the grading
Fourteen students took the
exam. General comments about the grading duplicate what I wrote about
the first exam.
Again, I may have made errors and would welcome requests
for explanation. Students should read my answers first, although
certainly there are several correct ways to answer almost all
of the questions.

Discussion of the grading
Fourteen students took the
exam. I was most surprised by the results on problem #2, which is
routine (taken directly from the text, I believe). I could have given
that problem on the first exam, and perhaps gotten higher
scores. Problem #4 was also from the text, and the results were not
good and surprised me, because I thought it was again routine.
You probably know that Rutgers regulations declare that the Math Department must retain final exams, but students can certainly stop by and look at what they've done and how I graded it. If you'd really like, I could even make a copy of your exam for you.
