Math 291, Honors Multivariable Calculus

Lectures by Eric Carlen

The class meets Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays form 5:00 to 6:20 p.m. in SERC 212. My office hours are 11-12 Monday and 12-1 Wednesday. My office is 632 Hill Center. My email is carlen at math dot rutgers dot edu.

Grading

There will be two in-class hour exams, worth 100 points each. There will be a final exam worth 200 points. There will be various homeworks, challenge problems, possible quizzes and Maple projects (see the syllabus), and these will count for an additional 100 points. The final grades will be assigned on the basis of the fraction of the possible 500 points that are earned.

Course Materials

There will be reading assignments from two sources: The Calculus Text by Rogawski, which you have used in Calculus II, and an on-line text by myself and Michael Loss, a professor at Georgia Institute of Technology. The following links are to the chapters of the on-line text. These will be added here progressively,

(1): Chapter One of the online text

(2): Chapter Two of the online text.

(3): Chapter Three of the online text.

(4): Chapter Four of the online text.

At the time of posting, we have covered the material that the first four questions are designed to examine. We will cover the remaining material this week -- Feb 15-18. I will post at least one more practice test on the next weekend, when I will also post solutions to this one.

Here is a practice test for the second exam. Here are solutions for the practice test for the second exam.. Here is the second practice test. I will go over the solutions of this one on Wednesday in class.

Here is a practice test for the final exam. I will go over the solutions in class on Monday. Please try to have worked all of the problems before then. Here are solutions for the problems on the practice final exam that I did not cover in class on Wednesday.
