LECTURES -- FALL 2020
TuFr 10:20 -- 11:40am, on Zoom.

ATTENDANCE
Lectures will be conducted over zoom, recorded, and posted online. It is strongly suggested, if at all possible, that you attend the lectures live, so you can stop the discussion and ask questions as they arise. I do not teach math, I teach *people*; it will be of great service to me (and I believe, to you) if you could please leave your video on (feel free to turn on a virtual background if necessary), and leave your audio muted until you wish to speak.

SUGGESTIONS
It is *very* difficult to learn advanced mathematics, even in person, and especially virtually. If you are serious about mastering this subject, let me make the following suggestions. The biggest distraction to lecture is a phone/computer, but unfortunately you now need one of these to attend. I would make the zoom screen full size, so you can not see any other programs on your screen, and turn your phone *off* completely. I would also sit some distance from the screen, with your pen and notepad between you and the keyboard, taking notes. This may help decrease the odds that your concentration is obstructed.

TEXT
Course textbook: Stein and Shakarchi, Complex Analysis.

WEEKLY ASSIGNMENTS
Every week there will be required reading and homework assignments, which are due on Tuesdays by the beginning of class. The detailed list is available on the lectures page. Late homework will not be accepted.

HOMEWORK POLICY
You are encouraged to work on solving the homework problems with other students. But when you write up your final solutions, you must work alone. At the top of the first page, list the names of the students with whom you collaborated.

QUIZZES
We will have several quizzes on accumulated subject matter (lectures and homework). They are not meant to be a big source of stress; rather their intent is to ensure one stays on top of the material.

EXAMS
The course will have a take-home final exam.

GRADING
Your course grade will be computed as follows:
Final Exam: 50%
Quizzes: 20% total
Homework: 30% total
CHEATING
Any work suspected of being copied or otherwise fraudulently represented will immediately result in a failing grade for the course, and will be prosecuted to the highest extent allowed by University Policy.

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY POLICY
