## Syllabus for Math 361: Set Theory

**Textbook**: Herbert B. Enderton, *Elements of Set Theory*, Academic Press.

**Course topics**: We will be covering most of the material in Chapters 1 through 8 of Enderton's textbook, including:

- The Zermelo–Fraenkel Axioms of Set Theory.
- The construction of the real numbers.
- Countable and uncountable sets.
- Cardinal arithmetic.
- The Axiom of Choice.
- Well-orderings and ordinal numbers.

**Meeting times**: The lectures will be held as Zoom meetings every Monday and Thursday 10:20 - 11:40 am.

**Office hours**: The office hours will be held as Zoom meetings every Monday and Thursday 1:30 - 2:30 pm.

The final grade will be based on the results of the examinations and the solutions of the homework problems. We will have 2 midterm exams and a final exam. Homework will be assigned every Monday and will be due the following Monday. Here are the weights of the different components of the course:

- Final Exam 40%
