What do you like best about this course?:

Didn't enjoy this course much

Notes are posted online.

The way Dr G goes in depth with the material and explains everything pretty well.

Professor Guadagni is a tough but good teacher. His notes are gold

The notes and examples provided by the instructor throughout the course helped me understand the content we were learning.

some of the topics we covered

I like how readily available the lecture notes are. Not only are they organized and concise, but they actually make me feel like I am learning something as compared to the textbook.

Everything

The instructor provided all the information clearly. I felt like my grade was entirely in my hands since the professor did his job well.

I like his notes, they were perfect.

Great

If I didn't have enough time to copy down notes, they were available online after lecture.

That we learned more in depth about calc.

My ta was amazing

I liked the way the teacher took notes.

Mr. Guadagni is very clear about the material it makes it easy to follow.

Great notes and explanation. Makes concepts look easier.

The instructor

knew what he was talking about, good lecturer

I liked how the professor would post his notes in an organized manner on his website for all students to be able to access them.

The instructors method of teaching.

The recitations were very helpful

nothing

the content

It was extremely helpful to, on top of having a very competent lecturer, write the notes in the iPad.

That its a calculus class and expands on concepts mentioned in calc 2

I like that Dr. G used his iPad and wrote on that instead of writing on the chalkboard. I have non idea how this course would be taught on a chalkboard. He did great job with explaining the course material and background of where the equations came from.

Some of the problems are fun to compute.

The notes being done on the iPad and sent out. More professors should do that. Office hours were helpful.

If you were teaching this course, what would you do differently?:

I would try to have a better attitude when teaching it and make homework assignments shorter.

Nothing.

Nothing

The exams were very difficult compared to problems we did in class.

N/A

slow down the pace....a lot

Everything

Nothing

Great

I would go a little slower (I know that there is a lot of information to go over though). I forgot to include this in the JinYoung's review, but I think for recitation, I would gain more out of recitation if we had a set of problems that were harder or had application of the material learned instead of quizzes. Personally, it was hard for me to keep up with everything, and I would have really appreciated if recitations were used for "catching up," seeing as to how none of the office hours matched up, and I had to go to the tutoring center or friends for help.

I would not give quizzes every friday but give them every other friday.

none

I would grade a lot more leniently because it is nearly impossible to do well in this class.

I would do the exams a bit easier. Exams are too hard it just I don't know if I am lack of materials or is it just the exam

Get rid of WebAssign

better classroom

If I were teaching this course, I would not make the exams extremely hard like they were. I am not saying that they should be stupid easy. All I'm saying is that they should be what we can expect based on our homework and they should only test our knowledge of the new material that we learned in this class instead of being challenging problems.

A lot of the time I felt like the instructor was going too fast and rarely restated important, complex ideas unless a student expressed extreme confusion. I believe an ideal instructor knows which parts are difficult among average students and introduces the concepts in a "dumbed-down" way before explaining the complexity of it.

Nothing. professor is great at teaching

Nothing.

I would slow down the pace of the lectures

I would give practice exams out online on Sakai so we can have the chance to put ourselves in an exam mode and identify if we're quick enough at solving questions and have an idea for how questions are worded. All of our exam questions were reasonable but some of the wording did throw me off a bit.

Possibly screen-recording the iPad during lectures with audio. Then posting on youtube or your website.

In what ways, if any, has this course or the instructor encouraged your intellectual growth and progress?:

It has been a tough class and has taken lots of time to do work for it compared to my other classes

My critical thinking to applying different methods to different problems has grown.

Better with visualizing 3 D models

N/A

made himself available to answer any questions

Everything

While the professor did provide all the information needed to pass the course, the students must study and work hard to pass the course since the exams are not at all easy.

He encouraged us by making the class harder than other teachers have. His exams require further applications of the topics taught.

Great

I learned that I really need to work on the basics and foundations first, because as the course progressed, since I did not have a solid understanding of parameterizations, I had a lot of trouble later on.

none

The instructor has taught me to keep working harder and harder even if the grade does not come out to what you want it to be.

-

Multivariable calc

increased my knowledge of math

This course has encouraged me to practice past calculus techniques that I may have forgotten since they can be very useful in future calculus courses and in engineering as well.

I have broadened my understanding of calculus and learnt new material that will aid me in the future.

The exams are ridiculously difficult. Many of the problems have not appeared in class examples or homework.

none

This instructor taught me not to take calculus so lightly.

it has encouraged to try harder in calculus as a whole

The iPad he wrote on was very helpful in being able to see the 3D figures actually in 3D. Dr. G is also a really funny professor. I go to his office hours every week to ask questions and finish the homework problems and it felt like the norm to go to office hours. Dr. G wants you to succeed but also will not make the course any easier just for all his students to pass. His exams are pretty hard but it is definitely possible to pass.

Yes, he was a very good teacher and I loved his notes and lectures. Taking notes on the iPad made this class infinitely better because I remember the first week of school we could barely see the writing on the chalkboard if we weren't right in the center of the classroom (so many student and really bad viewing angles for the chalkboard).

Answered questions clearly during lectures and office hours. I also liked how Webassign was set up, with infinite attempts and practice another version. In previous Calc classes I found myself being frustrated with Webassign and resorting to cheating, but this helped with that.

Great

I know that professors have seen tons of students come and go throughout the years, but it would help if you could sometimes empathize with students. Some are slower than others, or some may have special conditions, and it was hard communicating during hard times and just balancing everything out. However, overall, the course was well structured and I definitely learned a lot, but personally it was just a matter of keeping up.

Dr. Guadagni was a great professor. His lectures are very clear and easy to follow. I also liked how he organized his website with all the notes from every lecture posted there. The only thing that I did not like was the difficulty of his exams. I feel like they were much harder than they had to be and I understand that he wants to challenge his students in order to encourage them to study harder and do better. However, I feel like the point of the exams is to test our knowledge of the new material and to not challenge us further than that. Though, I do respect his decision of not putting a curve in the class since that is basically giving points to students whether they put in the effort or not.

I had this instructor for Calc 1. I told my friends that in my opinion he was the best Calculus professor that I have ever been taught by. When I found out he was my calc 3 professor I was ecstatic because I knew that under Dr. G, I can really understand the terminology.

none

It was a very well taught class, and very understanding with the web assigns

I am incredibly distraught that he will not be teaching calc 4 :(. This is my second time having him and I am sad that it is coming to an end.

Dr. G made convoluted and confusing topics very easy to understand. His examples and lectures were very well-prepared and helped guide the class in learning the material. Furthermore, he was very easily available if there were questions regarding the material or work and responded very efficiently and quickly.
