Save copies of pdf files
while you can!
On April 1, 2026, Rutgers policy will change to no longer allow standard pdf files to be provided to students.
The reason is that visually impaired students are unable to use most pdf files. My understanding is that the new policy is in response to federal regulations.
I prepare for my lectures by making hand-written notes for myself. In past semesters, students have often asked me for copies of these notes, which I have usually been happy to provide in the form of scanned pdf files.
Starting from April 1, 2026, I will no longer be able to do this. The same applies to hand-written solutions to exercises.
In order to provide extra materials to students, I would have to type it up in TeX or HTML, and carefully check that any figures have captions, etc. I do not have time for this, and I do not have a secretary to do it for me.
