you look over problems 23--30; I may assign a few later, but in any case
these give some interesting topological results.
- Assignment 3, due Tuesday 10/3: Rudin Chapter 2, problems *2,
5, *6, *7, 8, *9. In solving problem 2 you may use without proof the fact
that a polynomial of degree n has at most n complex roots.
Some solutions to Assignment 3. In fact, so far
a solution only to Rudin 2.2, since no one expressed interest in any other
problem. If you want some other solutions, email me or come in to discuss
the problems.
- Assignment 2, due 9/21: Rudin Chapter 1, problems 13, *15,
*16, 17, *20; Supplementary problems *2. Problem 16 may be tricky and it is
not very important; don't spend a lot of time on it.
Glance at supplementary problems 3–5 and, if you like, do 5
for extra credit.
Some solutions to Assignment 2.
- Assignment 1, due 9/14: Rudin Chapter 1, problems 1, 3, *5, *6,
