GRADE: The max. number of points is 500, with the following breakup.
-
Ten quizzes: 10 points each, dropping the lowest score: 90 points altogether.
-
Organized and neat notebook of class notes: 10 points.
Note: This is TOKEN. It is MANDATORY to take good notes, and people who do not take notes will fail this class.
-
2 Midterm Exams: 100 points each.
-
Final: 200 points.

370-399: C+ ;
325-369: C ;
280-324: D ;
0-279: F . No Curve!.
Grading policy: Accuracy is important. People who give the wrong answer, due to a "dumb mistake", but do it the
right way, can get at most %40 of the points of the question.
VERY IMPORTANT:
-
Attendance is strictly mandatory and enforced!
-
No cell-phones, no laptops, no electronic devices.
-
It is also mandatory to take notes of everything I say in class.
Please buy a SINGLE-SUBJECT notebook,
and write on the cover: Probability Classnotes.
Also write your name and E-mail (in case it gets lost).
Don't use it for any other subjects.
-
Take careful notes during the lectures and do all the homework.
The homework should be on loose sheet and would be inspected
during the weekly quiz.
-
If you have a justified absence in any class, then
in your notebook, in the space where you would have taken classnotes,
date it, explain why you were absent (e.g. tape-in doctor's note,
or a signed statement: "I swear on my honor that I felt so bad
that I couldn't make it"), and then in your own handwriting
copy the handouts (available from the webpage of the class) of the missed class.
-
Every lecture will end with a 10-minute informal "quiz", asking you to
do some problems covered in that day's class.
It doesn't count towards the grade, but I use it first, to check attendance
(it is more efficient than calling names), but more
important, to make sure that you know how to do the problems,
and in case that many people didn't get it, I'll try to do a better job
in reviewing it.
After each lecture I will the complete solutions in this class's
webpage,and you should
decide whether or not you got it right. If you didn't, you
should make every attempt to come to the
next free tutoring session (Mondays, 5:40-6:30pm, SEC 203)
-
Simple Calculators are allowed in exams and quizzes, but are subject to inspection.
Arguing about the grade
If you believe that I made a mistake in grading, please write me a note in writing, explaining for each
of the questions that you believe were graded incorrectly what my error was (or pointing out that
I made a mistake in adding up the points). Attach it to the graded exam, and give it to me
at the beginning of the class. I will return it to you during the following class,
with either the corrected grade, or an explanation why it should not be changed.
