This lecture was delivered on April 15, 2021, by invitation of Professor Janos Komlos, as a guest-lecture in his Freshman-Sophmore seminar held at Rutgers Univesity.
Abstract: We prove that being selfish, at least sometimes, is not a good idea. We illustrate it via the centipede game, as narrated in this opinion, and through the Braess paradox.
It was based on Frank Kelly's beautiful article in this secret file (search for Braess)
This challenge problem (with a 25 dollars reward), raised during the lecture, was beautifully written up by Professor Emily Sergel.
