My dear friend. Many, very many hearty thanks for that letter on the mixed school question. I read it in to-day's Herald, and think that it is by far the clearest, ablest and most logical letter you ever wrote, as far as I have read them. I begin to think the old adage a true one that: "Extremes meet", for I see that a temperance man as well as wine improves with age. _ that letter is a splendid one and will do good, thanks! I hope you and Mrs. P. are well, or at least as well as usual, although nowadays I never hear from you. Old age therefore does not seem to improve you in all things. How about the Garrison family and the rest of the Anti-Slavery folks. Do they all still somewhat cling together or do they verify the old German adage: "The child is dead, the relation ceases".

I retain my office 162 Broadway till May next, possibly longer. If I'll move, a notice on the old door will proclaim my new whereabouts. My residence is at Bergen Point, near Elizabeth NJ., a spare room and a warm welcome is always ready for you, and whenever you swing around the circle again do take a peep at our house-life and convince yourself, that wife and two baby-boys are taught to love Wendell Phillips as much

as does Your old friend
