If you qualify for membership, then your course grade will be computed in
two ways. The first way is the usual way,
counting everything, the
second way disregarding Exam I, dividing by 400, and multiplying by 500.
Whatever is higher, is your
final course score that would determine your grade,
according to the scale:
460-500:A ;
430-459: B+ ;
400-429: B ;
370-399: C+ ;
325-369: C ;
280-324: D ;
0-279: F . No Curve!.
What do you need to do in order to join the Second Chance Club for Exam I?
-
Don't write me Email asking me questions whose answers are clearly stated in this page.
-
You scored at least 40 points on Exam I (in exceptional cases, people who scored less
may also be eligible, but they have to contact me and get special permission)
-
Attend EVERY Clinic MTh 8:00-8:30am (PH-115) (i.e. the same classroom, before class).
This clinic will focus on reviewing
-
How to read simple English text contained in webpages like
-
this one
that clearly says that ALL Email to me must contain DiffEqsRock.
I still get MANY Email messages without it that I sometimes manage to retrieve from my spam folder,
but probably sometimes not.
-
Or this one
that clearly states that if you are unhappy with the way I graded your exam, you should submit it
in WRITING, NOT in person, and NOT via Email (that quite a few people did, to my very great
disappointment, of course I ignored them.)
-
How to READ a problem and ANSWER exactly what has been asked, not neither less nor more.
(When you do, it may mean that you have no clue what it is all about, and are just parroting
solutions of sample problems without understanding what it is all about).
-
How to check your answers. It is OK to make mistakes, but most mistakes can be
checked
-
Review of Calc 3 that is more important than Calc4
-
Review of Calc2 that is more important than Calc3, and hence much more important than Calc4
-
Review of Calc1 that is more important than Calc2, and hence very much more important than Calc4
-
Review of High school algebra, that is FAR MORE IMPORTANT THAN ANY CALC!
In particular, I will tell you why (x^2+a^2)1/2 is NOT x+a and
why ln(a+b) is NOT ln(a)+ln(b)
I will give a short attendance quiz on 8:00am sharp, to see that you made it, and to make sure
to give you credit for attending the clinic.
