What do you like best about this course?:
Dr. Z has a ton of energy, which helped to keep the course interesting.
The zeilberger
You totally cant fall asleep in class because Dr. Z's enthusiastic outbursts keep you entertained and on your toes
Professor z. He is amazing
The professor. He's one of the few who can actually teach Advanced Calculus.
He asks whatever he teaches in class His exams are reasonable He is very enthuastic about teaching this class Basically my BEST experience in Rutgers so far
notes are very organized
Great notes and the teacher explains in class why the methods are useful. There are attendance quizzes every class which make you pay attention.
none
being able to tell people that im in calc 5.
effectiveness of instructor
The instructor is very enthusiastic lecturer and really knows the material.
The class notes are easily accessible from the main course website, but attendance is still mandatory and quizzes are given each week to keep students up to speed.
great professor
professor zeilberger
Dr Z handout and funny comments helped me understand and not me bored in the class
I like the fact that Dr. Z gave us handouts and they were very clear to understand.
The professor was interesting and the subject matter an interesting challenge towards the end.
Dr. Z's enthusiasm for the course material
extremely tough material, very easily taught by one of the best professors in the world
If you were teaching this course, what would you do differently?:
Let you get an A at 90% instead of 92%.
Explain things just a little more clearly and write in a more organized manner on the board.
I wouldn't have a definite cutoff for grades; I'd have a small curve. 92 is a very hard grade for this course!
Nothing.
Nothing.
Nothing
provide homework solutions
Nothing. Its a beautifully organized course.
none
nothing! dr. Z has it down to an art form
less restrict
Grade a little more leniently
nothing
nothing
teach the middle portion of the course a little bit more slowly. I feel we went a little bit to fast through there and I had to go to a lot of office hours to understand it
Try to write on the board neater. It may not mean much to others, but having very organized and clean notes on the board helps me a lot when trying to understand the material.
Maybe a little less strict with keeping the notebook up to date since not every learns as easily through taking notes especially since there are already lecture notes.
I would hold more tutoring sessions, because I, along with others in the class, had class during the tutoring session so wee could never make it
nothing, i would change what i do when teaching others based on dr. z's teaching
In what ways, if any, has this course or the instructor encouraged your intellectual growth and progress?:
I know so much now!
I've actually learned how to do the math.
He was nice and encouragemental all thetime.
His explanation is great and it makes me confident that I can understand pretty much anything if I try hard and look for the right source or teacher.
none
Dr. Z is always pushing his students to work harder, and this mindset is easily used in any other class.
fourier series parts kill my brain
I am more prepared for the math I will see in the future
math
Actually explains material rather than just presenting it.
I feel that I can do any kind of math now after surrvivng this one
I learned more about calculus and its uses.
- learn partial differential equations - learn that there are more important things out there than just mechanically going through the mathematics, such as actually understanding ALGORITHMS - whatever you do, enjoy it and do it with all your heart like dr. z - always remain optimistic and enthusiastic - don't slack off
Other comments or suggestions::
Professor z is one of the best math instructors ever
He's passionate, almost borderline insane, about students understanding the material.
Dr.Z was really good, at the beginning of the semester. I could get everything in the class, and I was scoring great in his exams, but when it went to the materials of the second half, he was not doing enough examples and he was focusing on the theory more, which as an engineer I need to know how to do the problem, instead of the theory of it.
none
i cant say anything that hasnt already been said by im sure every student who has ever taken Dr. Z. He is one of the best, if not the best professor at Rutgers, hands down, without question.
nothing
By far one of the best professors at Rutgers.
Nothing.
I thought Dr. Z did a terrific job of presenting Calc 5 in an interesting and enthusiastic manner
we need more professors like dr. z
