#ATTENDANCE QUIZ FOR LECTURE 8 of Dr. Z.'s Math454(02) Rutgers University # Please Edit this .txt page with Answers #Email ShaloshBEkhad@gmail.com #Subject: p8 #with an attachment called #p8FirstLast.txt #(e.g. p8DoronZeilberger.txt) #Right after finishing watching the lecture but no later than Oct. 1, 2020, 8:00pm #THE NUMBER OF ATTENDANCE QUESTIONS WERE: #PLEASE LIST ALL THE QUESTIONS FOLLOWED, AFTER EACH BY THE ANSWER #1) Where (country) was the founder and president of OEIS born? What is the DOB? #The founder of OEIS, Neil Sloane, was born in Wales on October 10, 1939. #2) Who is the most famous colleague of Tutte in WWII? #Tutte worked at Bletchley Park in WW2. The most famous person I know and immediately think of #from Bletchley Park is Alan Turing, a famous Computer Scientist. #3) M.C. "Marko" Schutzenberger is considered by many people a crackpot even though he is a #respected mathematician/cs/linguist. Why? # He believed thought that the evolution theory of Darwinism was impossible/wrong and tried to # point out flaws in the theory of evolution. #4) Why was Dr. Z disappointed at the great Sir W. Timothy Gowers? #The closest thing that I found is: #In 2018, he wrote a controversial blog post that could be sexist and incorrect. #The blog post talked about a removed paper submitted to the Mathematical Intelligencer #on the variability hypothesis, which some think is sexist and lacking in scientific #(biological) merit. The variability hypothesis implies more men have high (and low) #intelligence compared to women, who just clump up at the middle, due to sexual selection. #Biologists are angry at this paper because it was written by mathematicians who know #little about actual evolutionary biology and human genetics.
