Syllabus for Mathematics 640:373:
Numerical Analysis



This is a very "standard" introductory course to the topic of "numerical algorithms". While there is a definite focus on mathematical analysis (derivation of the algorithms and estimation of errors) there will also be a "practical, computational component". We shall cover the following parts of the book ``Numerical Analysis'' by Burden and Faires:

Chapter 2: Solution of Equations in One Variable.
Chapter 3: Interpolation and Polynomial Approximation.
Chapter 4: Numerical Differentiation and Integration.
Chapter 5: Initial-Value Problems for Ordinary Diffrential Equations.
Parts of Chapter 10: Solution of Nonlinear Systems of Equations (time permitting).
