What do you like best about this course?:

Chloe's availability to help out. She went above and beyond what I expect any TA to do. I was never afraid to ask her a question or reach out for help. She made this course very comfortable, which is extremely difficult to do.

I just think real analysis is so cool. It's extremely difficult to get good grades in this class, but I think the subject material is so interesting.

Chloe. She is hands down the best TA / facilitator of any course I've ever taken at Rutgers in the years I've been here.

I liked reviewing the concepts we previously learned via workshops and additional class notes. I also appreciated being able to rewrite workshops.

Just really how helpful and available Chloe was. The material was genuinely difficult but I believe she guided everyone through the entirety of the course.

instructor was always willing to help students and work with them until they truly understood the problem

Chloe's recitation is fun and full of passion. I liked the way she presenting. Every class, she talks to every student, asking if they have any concerns or question.

N/A

She tried to help her student as much as possible. Her attitude toward teaching and preparing the workshop was very positive and impressive.

I liked how interactive it was and how I could work with others on the workshops.

Reasoning analytically through difficult questions and arriving at a solution is an incredibly rewarding experience; the TA really encouraged group discussion to arrive at these solutions.

She's energetic

Chloe was one of the best TA's I've had at Rutgers. She took a lot of care with teaching the students in a way that was both effective and relieving.

I liked when Chloe explained things on the board. She was also very helpful during her office hours.

If you were teaching this course, what would you do differently?:

Nothing.

I would try to make it a little easier to score well on exams and such. I would also use a different textbook.

Nothing, less emphasis on the grading of the workshop.

I would not do anything differently.

N/A

Maybe lecture less during reviews and just let students work on problems

I might spend extra 10-15 minutes go through some basic concepts of the course materials.

Less workshops probably!

She tried to interact with each students during workshops. I would spend a bit more time on explaining the definitions or theorems that would be needed.

I would be more straightforward with what I expected out of workshops, it was difficult in the beginning not knowing exactly what format the workshops should be like. I would always encourage typing up workshops/ make it required.

If I were teaching this course, I would reiterate key points in lecture to really focus each recitation before engaging in quizzes and workshops.

Less workshop or at least make it less portion of the total grade

The course was a bit too dense in my opinion. We could have done without Chapter 0 and perhaps some of the theorems throughout.

The entire concept of the workshop is flawed. We were supposed to sit there for 1.5 hours talking to our classmates about how to do the assigned problems. However, no one ever knew how to do the problems, so after about 20 minutes, we all gave up and started talking about unrelated stuff or playing on our phones. Chloe is great at explaining things on the board. Workshop would have been so much better if it had just been Chloe doing problems on the board, instead of some half assed group work nonsense.

In what ways, if any, has this course or the instructor encouraged your intellectual growth and progress?:

Chloe took a lot of the edge off so I could focus on actually learning the material. She also did a good job at helping you out enough, but leaving it to you to tie up all the pieces of the puzzle into a final bow. I appreciated being given that final step to do on my own since it really helped me learn the material.

Chloe is a really great TA and is very good at guiding students to the right answer. I feel really comfortable asking her anything questions about the material, which is extremely valuable considering real analysis is very intimidating.

This instructor was very encouraging and made sure to help when needed.

A lot of ways. In particular, Chloe introduced a number of books related to mathematics and honestly I never realized the vast amount of secondary resources available.

New material and new career information

Chloe was an excellent TA this semester! I think she very clearly demonstrated a dedication towards facilitating learning in this class and she tried her best to clarify concepts and ideas students wanted to try out during workshops. She was very fair in her expectations from students; she held both expectations that were reasonable for her to achieve as well as students.

Her positive attitude toward students really encouraged not only me but also other students in a good way. Also, she gave us very clear explanations when we ask questions

It has encouraged me to think differently and problem solve on my own. I was able to figure out problems on my own if I just took the time and had the material I needed to answer the questions.

The instructor, as previously stated, promoted group discussion and would periodically visit groups to help focus their thinking.

Yes

The course has been rigorous and it taught me to really develop my analytical skills.

Like I said, Chloe's explanations and problem solving on the board was very helpful. The workshop structure sucks though. Complete waste of time. Talking to my classmates who are just as bad as I am at analysis does not help me learn analysis. I'm not sure how Rutgers thinks that group work on a workshop helps. I'm sure there's some research out there or whatever, but if you actually attend these workshops, which I doubt you do, you will see that after about 20 minutes, students no longer actually work on the assigned problems.

Other comments or suggestions::

If you are planning to stay in the teaching profession, you will impact most students you interact with (well the ones that care). In my time at Rutgers I have never had an instructor/TA that cared or was as supportive as you. The 311 class you end up teaching next semester is a lucky bunch of students.

Thank you for everything <3.

She is very helpful and passionate. She is the best TA I have met so far.

No other comments.

maybe use another text - some theorems are poorly proven

I think it is important that Chloe show students literal examples of math writing to give a better sense of what is the proper use of English in math writing. I also think it is crucial that Chloe be a little more rigorous in her clarifications of the concepts of the class (namely when answering students' questions). It's important to build intuition but it is also important for students to have a rigorous way of expressing intuition!

Thank you Chloe!

I would try to stick to a more routinely schedule with returning workshops/quizzes and uploading answer keys.

I'd rather just have workshop be a 1.5 hour time frame where the TA solves problems on the board. Make it more of an optional office hours type of thing. The workshop was really nothing more than a hard problem once a week, so you can just assign it with the homework. Overall, the workshops sucked and were a complete waste of my time. Just think about it. If people are going to work as a group, then a study group will naturally form. There is no need to force group work in a class like introductory analysis. I've been in plenty of classes with no encouraged group work or workshop nonsense, but yet study groups still form. Again, if people are going to study together, then it will happen naturally. No employer is going to care if I've done math group work lol. Now in a class like intro to management, yeah, an employer would care if I've worked in a group. However, in 311, this is completely unnecessary.
