MATH 300 FINAL EXAM: Time & Place: Thursday May 6, 2010 8:30 - 10:30 am in Scott 121. Note: The official time announced by Rutgers is 8-11 am; this was changed to the above time by an unanimous vote in Thursdays class. Sections covered: 1.1-1.7, 2.1-2.5, 3.1-3.4, 4.1-4.5, 5.1-5.4. Advice for studying: 1) Read the book under the assumption that everything is wrong, and let the author convince you that his claims are in fact true (but look out for errors!). 2) Examples: check that they are done correctly -- if they don't make sense then you might have misunderstood the statement of a theorem or definition. Go back and read it carefully again. 3) When writing solutions / proofs: * What you write should be an essay with rigorous mathematical content. * Use the skeletons from class. * Make sure everything you write about has been introduced. For example, say what "x" is before you start making claims and/or conclusions about it. 4) Make sure you know how to do the homework and midterm problems to perfection. Announcement: Two problems on the final will be familiar!! One problem on the final will be a homework problem. One problem on the final will be a midterm problem. Practice problems: Here is a list of relevant problems from the book for those of you who want more practice. Doing everything will take some time, it is probably more realistic to do one or two items from each multi-part problem.
