Writing a recommendation for a DRP applicant

By a 'letter of recommendation' we mean a short e-mail message sent to drp@math.rutgers.edu indicating that you know the student well and that you believe he or she has the qualifications to participate in the program successfully. This mainly means two things.

  1. That the student has a level of mathematical knowledge, maturity and ability that will allow him or her to
    1. read an advanced undergraduate-level mathematics textbook independently, including the proofs of the main results, and to
    2. solve most of the exercises in the textbook with little external help.
  2. That the student's capabilities, self-motivation, discipline, and enthusiasm will help him or her complete the semester-long reading project successfully.
