News Item: Xiaochun Rong Named Cheung Kong Scholar



2000: The "Cheung Kong Scholar" prize is awarded by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China and the Li Ka Shing Foundation of Hong Kong. The recipients of this prize are Chinese scientists working abroad who return to mainland China in the summer or during sabbaticals to give lecture courses and to carry out research. This activity is supported for a period of three to five years by the prize fund.

This is the second year the prize has been given. Other mathematicians who have received this prize include Prof. Gang Tian of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Prof. Fang-Hua Lin of the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at New York University.
