Math 252 Spring 2000
There are four sections of 252 this semester. Links to special information
for different sections will be added as needed.
General Information
Consult the pages prepared for Fall 1999 for
a syllabus and supplementary material. This page allows current instructors
to record any modification of that description of the course or hints for
making better use of that material.
The notes on modeling N1 from the "additional course notes" link of
the "Information and Resources section" of Fall 1999 page have been
revised. The goal was to produce a version that could be viewed and
printed reliably. Unfortunately, limitations of available technology
led to omitting the graphs.
New notes or notes revised for this semester:
- N1 (revised, in pdf format);
- slope fields (transcript of a
Maple session);
- Euler's method (new);
- N2 (converted to pdf format for
easier printing);
- Linearization notes for the
examples in sections 2.1 and 2.2 of the textbook;
- More rabbits and foxes, an exact
solution of the example from section 2.1 proving that orbits are
closed curves;
- N3 (slightly revised, in pdf
format, but the correction of an obvious error in the first example
must wait for a while pending access to the source file);
- N4 (slightly revised, in pdf
format).
- Complex eigenvalues analyzed using
matrix exponentials.
- Skew symmetric matrices and the
systems that give rise to them.
- An easily remembered formula for
solutions of 2 by 2 systems with a pair of complex conjugate
eigenvalues.
- Variation of Parameters, a method for
finding expressions for the solutions of inhomgeneous systems.
